After a wildly successful West Coast debut last season, South Africa’s Isango Ensemble returns to The Broad Stage for an extraordinary production of uCarmen. Based off their critically acclaimed film U-Carmen eKhayelitsha, winner of the Golden Bear for best film at the Berlinale in 2005, Isango transforms Bizet’s powerful masterpiece into a supernatural story of township lovers. Combining musical theater with pulsating African rhythms, Isango’s uCarmen is a fresh new take on one of the most popular operas of all time.
