This event has expired. Please visit the Events Calendar for current listings.
Somatic dance works by an international and local cast of artists, SOMAfest11 features a landscape of dance, film, voice, and live music, that expresses diverse ways we can creatively experience our interconnected relationship to BODY – EARTH/PLACE – and GLOBAL COMMUNITY.
Artists include Teri Carter (LA), Caryn Heilman (NYC), Georgianne Cowan (LA), Camille Maurine (LA), John William Johnson (Portland, OR), Rebecca Bryant (Long Beach), Prairie House Dance (Canada), Goh Kurosawa (Japan), Margit Galanter (San Francisco) and others who present kinesthetically charged improvisational and contemporary work infused with sensuality, aliveness and innovation
The performers explore aspects of BioDiversity, experiencing BODY and MOVEMENT as part of a planetary process. Inspired by relationship to the biosphere we all live in, these artists inhabit the body from the inside out, attuning to the cues and signals from within one’s personal ecosystem. There’s a flow of intelligence from the natural world through our senses and tissues. Instead of living “on the surface,” we can know ourselves as part of nature’s body.
Lewis Segal wrote in the L.A. Times about SOMA Fest Artists, “Real body awareness… These performers are a breed apart… Brilliant harnessing of the body”…
