The Santa Monica Symphony celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the annual MLK Holiday Weekend Concert Saturday afternoon, January 18. The music of African American composers Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and William Grant Still share the program with Aaron Copland’s uplifting “Lincoln Portrait” narrated by KUSC’s Rich Capparela. The concert includes the traditional audience sing-along of “We Shall Overcome”, the anthem of the Civil Rights Movement.
