Pulse of Pangalay

Audiences will be immersed in the indigenous cultures of the southern Philippines, honoring the heritage of the Samal, Badjaw, and Tau Sug people through the hypnotizing sounds of kulintangan gong music, exquisite traditional dress, exhilarating martial art dances, and most especially the gorgeous postures and gestures of pangalay. The versatility of pangalay will be on display as dancers embody nature as sea mantis in the coral reef or monkeys in the jungle, celebrate life by dancing with masks, fans, and elongated fingernails, and demonstrate skills of balance while perched atop gongs and bamboos hoisted on shoulders.
