Join us for a visit to 18th Street Arts Center (18SAC)—the internationally renowned artist organization dedicated to provoking public dialogue through art-making that has provided local space and support for artists working at the forefront of contemporary practice since 1988. In June of this year, the Conservancy recognized 18SAC’s community produced mapping project of the Pico Neighborhood – Culture Mapping 90404 – with a Cultural Heritage Award as part of the 2023 Preservation Awards.
The visit will include a campus tour and conversation with Senior Director of Public Programs & Engagement Michael Ano, who will talk about Culture Mapping 90404 and the history of 18SAC. The tour will be followed by a studio visit with artist-in-residence Dan Kwong, whose award-winning multi-media work includes a collaborative video project that explores the history of the Pico Neighborhood.
After the visit, we will walk over to the Buffalo Club at 1520 Olympic Boulevard.
