When activist Stan is wrongfully incarcerated, his wife Leah infiltrates the system in disguise to free him. Heartbeat Opera’s moving reinterpretation of Beethoven’s Fidelio finds Leah (originally Leonore) and Stan (originally Florestan) in the context of the national movement for Black lives.
This imaginative 90-minute adaptation features a cast of five singers, seven instrumentalists, and a recorded chorus of more than 100 incarcerated singers and 70 outside volunteers from six prison choirs in four states across the Midwest.
