International Women’s Day is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
International Women’s Day has occurred for well over a century, with the first observance in 1911 which was supported by over a million people. Today, the celebration belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. International Women’s Day is not country, group or organization specific.
The Pacific Wheel will be lit purple, green and white on International Women’s Day. Purple signifies justice and dignity. Green symbolizes hope. White represents unity. The colors originated from the Women’s Social and Political Union in the UK in 1908.
This special light program will run Dusk to midnight (around 6 – 7 PM) on Monday, March 8. Celebrate women’s achievement. Take action for equality.
