Presented by the American Cinematheque and Santa Monica College’s Public Policy Institute:
10th Anniversary! SWIMMING IN AUSCHWITZ, 2007, Bala Cynwyd Productions, 63 min. Writer-director Jon Kean’s inspiring documentary focuses on six Jewish women, from different countries and different backgrounds, who found themselves deported to the notorious Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp during WWII. While women were subject to the same physical hardships as men, their testimonies differ from that of most male Holocaust survivors, revealing a strong focus on family, friendship and faith that helped sustain them. Panel discussion follows with director Jon Kean, Rabbi Neil Comess-Daniels, SMC professor Ali Mohsen, and Ahilan Arulanantham from the American Civil Liberties Union.
