SANTA MONICA, Calif., (October 30, 2020) – Spooktacular Santa Monica is in full holiday mode this weekend with virtual and in-person activities throughout town. From a large-scale art installation to an oceanside luxurious hotel getaway, Santa Monica not only offers up sunshine and sand but also Halloween and Día de los Muertos fun activities for all ages. The Santa Monica Pier
From outdoor dining and fresh air to waterfront walks and digital engagement, there’s a variety of Halloween and Día de los Muertos activities planned as well as the Pier’s new “Secret Story Tour App” that is an all-ages interactive experience for individuals or groups. Location-based puzzles unlock secrets and untold stories of the 111-year old Pier. Play it safe and remember to wear a face covering and keep your social distance. Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier
The 174,000 solar-powered LED lights of the Pacific Wheel will display a 90-foot tall rotating gallery of a high-flying ghost, a Día de Los Muertos sugar skull, a smiling vampire, a grinning jack-o-lantern and more through November 2. The Ferris wheel light show is viewable from sunset until midnight each day in person or online.
Third Street Promenade
Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. presents a variety of Halloween and Día de los Muertos activities at the Third Street Promenade and beyond now through November 2. For more information, visit downtownsm.com
Pico Blvd.
The Pico Improvement Organization presents safe trick or treating. Stop by the Pico Pop-Up at 2802 Pico Blvd. on Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. for a safely distributed candy bar. A Costume Contest for Kids up to 12 years old and pets too. A picture of kids in costume will be taken and posted to social media where followers can vote for the winner of a Baskin Robbins $25 gift certificate. Pico Blvd.’s Paws & Effect Pet Spa is sponsoring the Best Pet Costume prizes.
Huckleberry’s “Hucktivities”
Huckleberry Bakery & Café is a one-stop Halloween lifesaver during these cautious times. Their “Hucktivies” include DIY kids, take and bake treats, and baking mixes. Bulk prices on kits are available for group or a Zoom party activities. Frost skull-shaped cookies or pumpkin cupcakes, and decorate with a variety of organic/all-natural sprinkles and candy corn. Meals on Wheels West Virtual Monster Bash
This year’s Meals on Wheels West Monster Bash and silent auction has gone viral with a live DJ, dancing, The Rembrandts (Friends theme song), costume contest, cocktail kits and a celebrity host. All proceeds go to helping feed homebound neighbors of all ages in Santa Monica. Bid on 32 unique experiences like a Lake Tahoe ski getaway, a hot air balloon ride in Albuquerque, a staycation at magnificent hotels such as Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel or Sofitel Beverly Hills, and can’t miss dining experiences.
For a $60 or $100 donation, Meals on Wheels West will provide your choice of either a Champagne Toast, Witch’s Brew Cocktail, or Mocktail Kit to enjoy during the show. A Witch’s Brew Mixologist will be on hand during the event. Join the City of Santa Monica virtually to celebrate Day of the Dead on Sunday from 5-6 p.m. This free, family-friendly hour will include an overview of this celebration of life and death, live Day of the Dead inspired music, presentations of altars by local community members, and a workshop on how to make a paper flower for your own altar.
